Our Mission

Capitol Region RSVP places seniors 55 and over into meaningful volunteer assignments in order to enhance their own lives and the community in which they serve.

Background

Capitol Region Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) has served the communities of Greater Providence for over 30 years.  The program gives retired seniors the opportunity to offer their knowledge, experience and skills to the community by volunteering at various local organizations.  RSVP volunteers mentor young children, serve meals at soup kitchens, provide health care services for seniors, and organize fundraisers for several local charities.  The program functioned for 25 years under auspices of the Volunteer Center of Rhode Island and has grown to include over 650 volunteers in the surrounding Providence area. Capitol Region RSVP has recently been awarded to the Federal Hill House for further development of programming and senior volunteers!

Created originally as a pilot program, RSVP was set up under the direction of the nationally recognized Senior Corps Organization.  Today the organization oversees 750 programs across the United States , with over 450,000 registered volunteers.

Each year Capitol Region RSVP volunteers offer more than 100,000 hours of service to their community via 100 local non-profit agencies.  This volunteer service, while of greater societal worth, is valued at 1.3 million dollars by the Points of Light Foundation.
